Typically short term memory problems are seen in the child as not remembering directions that have been given. Somethings that can be done to help are:
- provide one instruction at a time until they can remember that step and then add another step
- write down verbal instructions as well so that the child is able to look back
- use familiar language don't use words they do not know
- provided visual aids if that is needed to recall memory
- providing visual aids to help the recall
- regular reminders
- teaching mnemonics for recall, so finding links to things they need to remember
- lastly remember the more sensory that you are using the better.
